Welcome to the Elementary Technology Page

At the elementary campus, we provide many technology resources to enhance the learning experience. It is important for students to understand and exercise personal responsibility in their use of all of these resources.

The following expectations are to be accomplished by each year end, within the specified Grade.

  • effectively use search engines by choosing appropriate keywords
  • critically evaluate (compare and contrast) electronic information to identify trustworthy, verified sources
  • develop an understanding of citing
  • use a Westmount e-mail account appropriately including: -sending attachments -e-mail etiquette
  • use a variety of electronic applications to collaborate
  • communicate beyond the classroom via virtual visits
  • apply computational thinking strategies
  • through coding activities demonstrates an understanding of algorithm, loop, debugging, block-based computer language, if-statements and variables
  • identify positive and negative aspects of technology
  • follow appropriate online safety rules
  • demonstrate an understanding of a digital footprint
  • knows what to do if they encounter cyberbullying
  • apply proper keyboarding techniques
  • compose, edit and revise text using a word processor including cut, copy and paste
  • access and input appropriate graphics as needed
  • generate an electronic slideshow presentation
  • create electronic artwork
  • identify and chose kid-friendly search engines for specific inquiry
  • identify and use a variety of trustworthy electronic sources for research
