Charter Board Directors
Westmount currently has nine Charter Board directors, five non-parent and four parent. Their profiles are below:
Amy Burns (Non‐parent Director) is a faculty member of the Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary with an administrative role as Director of Field Experience in the Undergraduate Programs in Education. Her expertise lies in the development of teaching and learning in unique contexts with a focus on leadership and the interpretation of policy in action. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy and a Master of Arts from the University of Calgary and a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Education from the University of Lethbridge.
Graeme Finlay (Parent Director and Board Chair) is a school administrator with the Calgary Board of Education. He has experience both as a student and a teacher in congregated gifted settings. He was previously president of the Gifted and Talented Education Council of the Alberta Teachers Association. He has a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Education, all from the University of Calgary.
Linda Finlay (Non‐parent Director) is a retired teacher, having taught both teachers and students of gifted education. She has been involved in gifted education for over 30 years, serving as Chair of the Alberta Teachers’ Association Gifted and Talented Association for two terms. She has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Manitoba and a Master of Education from the University of Calgary.
Karen Gallagher‐Burt (Non‐parent Director) works with United Way Calgary and Area as Team Manager, Campaign Engagement. She has extensive board experience and a genuine love for children, having fostered forty‐four children and raising two of her own (now‐adult) children. She holds a Master of Social work and Bachelor of Social Work, both from the University of Calgary.
Jordan Lewis (Parent Director) Jordan is a Construction Management Consultant representing the interests of owners. He brings to the board construction knowledge that is helpful in facility and contracting decisions as well as his past experience serving on Board for an international school. He has a Bachelor of Arts from University of Richmond and a Masters in Construction Management from Virginia Tech.
Tun Myo (Non-parent Director) is the owner of a cross-border taxation and accounting firm. He brings a background in corporate financial reporting and financial management. He has a BSc. in mathematics and economics and a BComm. in accounting, both from the University of Alberta.
Scott Rankin (Parent Director and Board Vice Chair) is an educator and consultant in Human Resources. He has over 25 years of experience in Human Resources in Calgary’s energy industry and in the public sector. He brings expertise in organizations and governance to the Westmount Board. Scott holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Management with a focus on Human Resources strategy from the University of Calgary. He also earned a Master’s degree in Communications Studies and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Calgary.
Kathleen Rockwell (Parent Director) is Senior Special Counsel to the Vice‐Chairs at the Alberta Securities Commission. She brings a background in law, commerce and corporate governance policy to the Board. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Juris Doctor from the University of British Columbia and a Master of Laws from McGill University.
Diane Shirra (Non‐parent Director) is Vice President Business Development for Black Swan Energy. She brings experience as a parent of two gifted children who graduated from Westmount Charter School, broad professional experience in various business functions and a commitment to charter schools and gifted education. She holds a Bachelor of Engineering from McGill University and an Master of Business Administration from INSEAD (Institut European d’Administration des Affaires).
